Elginite Vargas considering congressional GOP primary

An Elgin man who spent the last 16 months helping to create jobs in Iraq has announced he is exploring a run for Congress.
Mark Vargas, 28, said he is considering a run in the Republican primary election in the 14th Congressional District, where the seat is now held by Democrat Bill Foster of Geneva.
Vargas spent a year and half traveling back and forth to the Middle East with the Defense Department as part of the effort to rebuild Iraq’s economy. For his efforts, he received the Secretary of Defense’s Global War on Terrorism Civilian Medal.
“I’m probably one of the only young candidates in the area that can speak about creating jobs. I’ve actually done it,” Vargas said. (read full)
